Amaretto (Italian for "a little bitter") is a sweet liqueur originally flavored from bitter almonds. When served as a beverage, amaretto can be drunk by itself, used as an ingredient to create several popular mixed drinks, or added to coffee. Amaretto is also commonly used in culinary applications. Melusine is a figure of European folklore and mythology, a female spirit of fresh water in a sacred spring or river. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down. One tale says Melusine herself was the daughter of a fairy who leaves her husband, taking her daughters to the isle of Avalon after he breaks an oath never to look in at her and her daughter in their bath. The same pattern appears in stories where Melusine marries a nobleman only after he makes an oath to give her privacy in her bath; each time, she leaves the nobleman after he breaks that oath. Some say that the Starbucks logo evolved from the story of Melusine with the twin-tailed mermaid.
- We call it an Almond Joy. You can shake it, blend it, or pour it on the rocks. Mix two shots of Melusine amaretto with one shot of Totally Nauti macadamia coconut vodka and enough half and half to make you happy. Add a squeeze or two of chocolate syrup and relax.
