We have a new dog-themed garden at Westport Winery Garden Resort!
We are getting tons of questions about eliminating our dog park last month. Our insurance company hopped on our website and saw that we had a dog park. It was not a feature we brought to their attention, nor did we think it was a significant liability. They strongly disagreed. We had the choice of having insurance coverage or a dog park. Not both. Not at higher premiums. Simply not at all.
We immediately removed the dog park and notified our guests. This allowed us the space and access to expand for much needed additional parking. We also made sure there is now reliable shade. Turning lemons into lemonade.
At the same time we created a new area as a dog garden. Like the rest of our property it is ON-leash only. It has a hydrant, potty bags, parking, seating, shade, and a water bowl (although the water hydrant is now next to the access to the patio). It has the features of the dog park with the exception of not allowing dogs off-leash and not being fenced.
We are not mad at our insurers. Nor do we wish to focus on negativity. We are grateful that they partner with us. We hope you will join us in joyously embracing this new space. It is really cool to offer it to you. We ask that you enjoy it with respect for our business and other guests touring our gardens. Be mindful. Pick up potty. Park straight. Stay on leash. Mind your manners. Take a breath and love your pooch. It's a good thing. Be happy.
We hope you and your four-legged friends enjoy your next visit. At the same time remember that the winery building includes a restaurant. The health department regulates our ability to provide this service to you. Their policy is no pets allowed in this building, although service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.
In 2017 the Westport Winery was named Greater Grays Harbor Business of the Year. USA Today named the Sea Glass Grill at Westport Winery Garden Resort one of the top five winery restaurants in the nation. The business has been voted Best Winery by King 5 Evening Magazine.
In 2016 Westport Winery was honored as one of the top twenty most-admired wineries in North America by Winery & Vineyard Management Magazine. The business earned Best Winery, Best Wine Shop, and Best Boutique Winery for 2016 by South Sound Magazine. They received the Grays Harbor Environmental Stewardship Award in 2015. They are finalist to the Best Washington Family Business competition by Seattle Business Magazine. And in 2011 they garnered Washington Winery to Watch by Wine Press Northwest.
In Oregon, Westport Winery Seaside is open daily from 11am to 6pm. Westport Winery TASTING @ Cannon Beach is open Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
Family-friendly Westport Winery Garden Resort is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport.
