One of my favorite plants to design with is lavender. We boast five varieties now in the nursery at Westport Winery Garden Resort with more to come as spring progresses. We currently offer these English lavenders: Platinum Blonde, Hidcote and Munstead. We also have lovely Spanish lavenders: Javelin Rose and Otto Quast. Plus we have the fat spike lavender intermedia Grosso.
Lavender is a workhorse in the garden because it is perennial (comes back year after year), enjoys well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established, and it is deer resistant. It is also beloved by butterflies. It must be pruned in the fall to keep it's structure from flopping open like sage brush.
