We have some pretty maples in the nursery again this year at Westport Winery Garden Resort.
Autumn Blaze® Maple (Acer x freemanii 'Jeffersred') is a hybrid of silver and red maple. It has experienced phenomenal popularity due to its ascending branch habit, rapid growth rate, drought tolerance when established, ability to grow in most soils, beautiful fall color and form. It was selected as the 1997 Iowa Tree of the year and 2004 Urban Tree of the year by the Society of Municipal Arborists.
Acer ginnala compact 'Bailey' is a medium size fine textured shrub with a compact graceful spreading form. It features fragrant yellow flowers in the spring. Attractive glossy green foliage in summer turns a vivid orange to scarlet in fall. It is great as a specimen, screen or hedge plant.
