We
are releasing our first Sagrantino today at Westport Winery. It is
called Courage. You will need some courage of your own to handle the
challenge of this big, bold red wine.
Once
nearly extinct, a single vineyard in Italy brought this rare varietal
back to the world of wine drinkers. We tasted it several years ago while
exploring Texas wine country. (Yes, it's a thing). We loved it, came
home, and searched Washington state for a grower. We picked this fruit
at Inland Desert Vineyard near Red Mountain in 2018. You can imagine
that it needs serious heat to ripen and this vineyard has what it needs.
The
resultant wine is dark, filled with bold tannin and ripe fruit, with a
completely dry, yet lengthy, finish. You may want to enjoy it with a
hearty marinara, juicy rib eye, or sharp aged cheddar. (We have Cougar
Gold back in stock.) This is a bottle that is definitely age-worthy if
you want to wait to enjoy it in a few years. It is not for the meek, but
if you want to give it a try we are now offering wine flights on the
patio at Westport Winery Garden Resort.
We hope to open the building soon but are still navigating through the proper methods of compliance. Until then, we welcome
you to call us at 360-648-2224 for curbside pick up or shipping of
wine, spirits, gifts, plants and gourmet food. The Sea Glass Grill is
open for take out food and beverages including cocktails to-go in sealed
containers.
